Sambar Rice - Sambar Sadam
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup rice
- ½ Cup toor dhal (lentils)
- 3 potatoes (washed and cut into small pcs)
- 2 med sized onions cut into pieces
- Small amount of tamarind essence
- 1 tomato
- Pinch of Curry leaves
- 1 tbsp of chilli powder
- ½ tsp Coriander powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- Asafetida to taste
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- Salt to taste
- ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
- 2 tbsp Oil
Method:
- Take a microwave container and add toor dhal and rice into the container. Give the two ingredients a good wash with water and drain. Then, add 5 cups of water to this
- Add the potatoes, onions, chilli powder, half the amount of curry leaves, tamarind essence, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt and asafetida into the container.
- Cut the tomato into small pieces and add to the same container.
- Mix all the ingredients together well
- Add the required oil into the dish
- Keep the container in the microwave and heat for about 16 minutes
- Take out and mix ingredients in the container once again and leave in the microwave for another 5 minutes
- Keep a saucepan on the stove. Add oil and wait to heat.
- Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds into the saucepan
- Once mustard seeds start popping and fenugreek seeds turn golden brown add the remaining curry leaves into the saucepan. Fry well and remove saucepan off the stove and add these fried ingredients into the microwave container.
- Mix all ingredients well together and serve
