Pavakai Thokku - Bittermelon / Bittergourd Thokku
DESCRIPTION

Method
1. Transfer the cut bittermelon pieces into microwave safe bowl, add some water, and cook it in the microwave oven for approximately 5 minutes
2. Take it out of the microwave. Mash the pieces until it is smooth.
3. Add the rice flour, chilli powder, sugar, tamarind essence, salt to taste, turmeric powder and asafoetida into the bowl.
4. Add water and mix well.
5. Turn on the stove, place a saucepan and drizzle about 2 tbsp of oil.
6. Add the mustard seeds and wait until they start crackling.
7. Add the curry leaves, green chillies and add the bittermelon mixture that was made in the bowl.
8. Mix a little bit and leave until all the ingredients combine well and the mixture thickens.
9. Serve with rice or have as a side dish with idli, dosa, chapathi, bread and so on.
- - 1 bittermelon / bittergourd - cut into pieces
- - tamarind essence - 2 tsp
- - Sugar - 1 tsp
- - Chilli powder - 1 tsp - Chopped finely
- - Rice Flour - 1 tbsp
- - Curry Leaves - a pinch
- - Green Chillies - 4
- - Salt to taste
- - Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- - Mustard - 1/2 tsp
- - Asafoetida for taste
- - Oil for frying
