Oats Payasam (Oats Kheer) (Oats Pudding)

DESCRIPTION

​This is a sweet version of the oat meal preparation. While we all know that oats have numerous health benefits, many of us still find it difficult to find new ways of preparing a good recipe with this ingredient. Oats payasam is one such delicious preparation using this fabulous ingredient!

INGREDIENTS

METHOD

  • 1 cup quick oats
  •  Light Soya milk (you can use regular milk as well)
  • 4-5 cardamom pods seeds
  • handful of sultanas
  • 4-5 cashew nuts
  • 4-5 almonds
  • handful of mixed seeds (sunflower, pumpkin, cucumber)
  • 3-4 tbsp of sugar (you can add more depending on your taste)
  • Ghee
  • Water as required
  1. Place the oats in a saucepan
  2. Pour enough milk such that the oats are submerged
  3. Add a little bit of water.
  4. Place the seeds of the cardamom pods, cashew nuts, almonds, and the mixed seeds in the mortar and pestle. Grind well.
  5. Add this powder into the saucepan. Mix well.
  6. Add sugar into the saucepan (raw sugar or white sugar).
  7. Turn on the stove and place the saucepan. Heat this up until the oats get cooked and nearly disappear. Turn off the stove.
  8. In a separate saucepan, add the ghee and wait until this melts a little bit.
  9. Add the sultanas and wait until they inflate and enlarge.
  10. Add the these enlarged sultanas with the oats mixture and mix well.
  11. Decorate with some whole nuts and serve warm.
