DESCRIPTION

This is an irresistible crunchy snack made of mushrooms. Ideal to have with your afternoon cup of tea or coffee.

METHOD

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup besan
  • Mushrooms chopped small pieces
  • 2 Onions chopped finely
  • 2 chillies chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • A generous pinch of Asafoetida
  • A Squeeze of Lemon juice
  • Water to make batter
  • Oil enough for deep frying
  1. First, mix water with besan flour such that the batter is not too thick nor too thin. Remove lumps while whisking the batter
  2. Add salt to taste and pinch of asafoetida into the batter
  3. Add chopped chillies into the batter
  4. Add squeeze of lemon juice into this mixture
  5. Add mushrooms and onions into the batter and mix well
  6. Turn on the stove, place wok on the stove and add oil for deep frying.
  7. Allow time for the oil to heat (To find if the oil has been heated or not, sprinkle a little bit of the battered mixture into the oil and if that floats at the top then it means that the oil has been heated.
  8. Take spoonfuls of this batter into oil for frying. Add only a few spoonfuls at a time so that they don’t stick together.
  9. Make sure that both sides of the pakoda has turned golden brown and remove. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for rest of the batter.
  10. Serve as a snack ideally with tea or coffee
