Dhahi Puri

DESCRIPTION

 This is a popular street delicacy made from puffed deep fried bread filled with savoury  yoghurt and salad. An easy and excellent snack alternative.

Ingredients

Method

  • ½ cup sooji (semolina)
  • Sprinkle of plain flour
  • 1 cup yoghurt
  • 2-3 tsp of sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • 1 onion
  • 1 red chilli
  • Small amount of water to make the dough
  • ½ tomato chopped
  • ½ cucumber diced
  • ½ cup dhal mooth
  • ½ cup hot sev
  1. Take a large plate or bowl
  2. Add semolina and salt to taste in it.
  3. Gradually add water on the semolina and mix until all semolina stick together
  4. Add a little plain flour to remove the wetness and continue to form a dough
  5. Add little amount oil if the dough is stick
  6. Leave the dough aside for 5 minutes
  7. Divide the dough into 2 large balls and flatten it out using a rolling pin
  8. Take a lid of wide mouthed bottle and using its edge, cut out small circles of puris from this dough. Watch this video if required to assist you with this step.
  9. Keep wok on the stove and add enough oil for deep frying
  10. Allow the oil to heat.
  11. Add the circle dough into the oil and allow it cook well. They must puff up and turn golden brown. Then remove. Continue this step with all the puris.
  12. Take the yoghurt and mix the sugar with it
  13. Make a small hole at the top of the puris by breaking a small portion and insert the yoghurt into the puris
  14. Place them in a plateand sprinkle hot sev and dhal mooth on top of the puri
  15. Add the diced cucumber and tomatoes on and around the puris on the plate
  16. Add onions on top and garnish with coriander leaves
  17. Spread the remaining yoghurt over the plate
  18. Sprinkle the remaining dhal mooth and hot sev on the plate
  19. Serve
